ABOUT US

ZAHNER has been in business for more than 100 years. The company was founded in 1897 by Andrew Zahner.  Mr. Zahner relocated to Kansas City Missouri from Joplin, Missouri where he owned another company called Eagle Cornice Works. Eagle Cornice provided custom architectural metal cornices to many of the advancing towns of southern Missouri and eastern Kansas.

Metal was experiencing its first United States renaissance in architecture at the end of the 19th Century. Galvanized steel was developed, aluminum was just invented, and stainless steel was just around the corner.

Since the beginning, the company has concentrated on producing custom architectural and ornamental metal work for the commercial industry. Zahner steadily evolved from a regional interest to an international organization.  Along the way Zahner worked on many of the most fascinating architectural and sculptural projects of the 20th century.  learn more

Today, metal is experiencing a new renaissance. Titanium, physical vapor deposition, interference coloring and custom patinas are readily available to designers.  Zahner continues to play a key role in the development, manipulation and fabrication of these 'new' materials and processes.

Current Zahner management is made up of fourth generation members of the family. The current CEO of the company, L. William Zahner, is considered a foremost industry expert and is the author of multiple books on the topic.  Mr. Zahner’s current release, "Architectural Metal Surfaces" published by John Wiley and Sons; NY, 2004. learn more

In addition, the management team at Zahner is participating in the production of the SMACNA Architectural Sheet Metal Manual. Since the publication’s inception in the 1960's, each edition has received input from a Zahner staff member.

Zahner is the proud recipient of numerous industry and civic awards for which we take great pride.  It is the desire, curiosity and unwavering commitment of a supremely talented staff that deserves the lion’s share of credit.  For these team members, both past and present, we are eternally grateful.  learn more
